German sports car brand to take No. 1 spot in the annual study, which gave his ninth place last year. Lincoln was second, while Buick and Lexus tied for third. Mercury and Toyota rounded out the top five.

The annual study measures experienced by original owners of vehicles after three years of problems. In a study last year, the Buick and the Jaguars tied for the least problems, but both brands losing ground to rivals this year.

U.S. brands have a very strong showing this year, reflecting the joint efforts in Detroit to pursue a foreign rivals that have traditionally dominated the study of quality, said David Sargent, vice president of vehicle research for JD Power.

Top-five finishers Lincoln and Mercury is owned by Ford Motor Co., while the Buick is owned by General Motors Co. Cadillac DTS full-size sedans, which are sold by GM, the car named the highest quality overall.

"The housemaid moved a little faster to catch," said Sargent.



Toyota, whose reputation has been under strict supervision in the face of large-scale withdrawals, fell two places from last year's third-place standing. While the average quality vehicles across the industry rose from a survey last year, Toyota's quality score down a bit.

However, Japan is still sweeping the shingle four segment awards, more than other brands, while the luxury Lexus brand took one segment awards. Japanese rival Honda took three awards, while Ford Motor Co. 's Lincoln brand took two.

Industry average was 155 problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power said, or fewer than two problems per vehicle. It decreased from 167 problems per 100 vehicles last year.



Sargent said the rough accordance with the historical rate of quality improvement industry.

"If you do not increase from 5 to 10 percent every year, you'll get left behind," he said.

Chrysler Group LLC is a Detroit automotive marques only without the above industry average. Land Rover owners reported problems most among the 36 brands surveyed by JD Power.


2010 JD Power dependence study surveyed more than 52 000 original owners of 2007 model year vehicles between October and December 2009. Results closely watched by automakers and are often used in advertisements. Owners opinion of the car after three years can be a major influence on their opinion to buy that brand again.

The Company also issued an initial quality study, which measures problems in the first 90 days of ownership. The study usually comes in June.
